Hi all,
Do firms match offers from other Big 4s for campus hires? I’ve received a campus offer from both KPMG and EY. I’m more interested in the EY offer, but they are paying 3k less than KPMG.
Would it be a bad move to let them know about the other offer and try negotiating? I feel it wont make a difference in the long run, but at the same time I don’t want to leave any money on the table if possible.
Thanks!

Would it be going any better without a CPA?
Have you tried a recruiting firm like Robert Half or LHH? I don’t have a CPA and I get calls and emails for jobs from these people everyday.
Rising Star
I have been in the accounting profession for over 12 years and LHH and Robert Half won’t contact me or respond to any of my messages
The job market is less than ideal at the moment. What roles have you been looking into?
Why aren’t you applying for Controller.
And second hot take. Where do you guys live, Mexico? The job market is certainly not tough right now. What’s tough is you all applying to instant apply jobs on LinkedIn thinking you are going to get hired.
I don't see how I will ever find a job in this field again at this point. I just wish I wouldn't have wasted so much time trying to have something good to offer this field.
Its rough out there right now. Have you looked at any PA outsourced accounting roles?
I've applied but I'm going to guess they don't like the industry only background since they never respond to my applications.
How many roles have you had in 5 years? Are you currently in a role?
I've had two roles in the past five years. Once was for a subsidiary of a very large, well known company and the subsidiary was completely dissolved for not being profitable. The second was for a P/E owned company and I quit that job because my mom was dying and the controller I reported to was awful to work for.
You might need to consider applying for lead associate role , if you want to try out PA. Not lateral move to manager.
I've tried to get into PA, but they aren't interested in me. I feel if you work too long in industry they won't consider you if you haven't had internal audit roles or very high-level financial reporting roles where you are reviewing the entire 10K's.
How many jobs have you applied to where you’ve gotten a referral?
Every job I’ve ever had in my professional career has been through referrals. If there are companies or specific roles you want - make connections and reach out to people in adjacent departments at the companies with roles you want. Often times there are referral programs where if people refer you they get 1-10k depending on seniority of the role you’re applying for.
I am currently pivoting from an accounting role, to more of an operational role. In my current and last 3 roles it’s always been somewhat of an even split where I am doing operational and accounting simultaneously. I worked at Deloitte straight out of college and used to think that a CPA would be my end all, be all, but quickly realized that I didn’t really need it anymore due to the current trajectory of my career. Have you looked into maybe the CMA instead if you are still looking to obtain some sort of certification?
I'm already a CPA, and while I like the CMA's I have worked with, I don't feel like getting one myself will help me find a job. Even a CFA wouldn't help me get a job. I just got turned away from a job for not having 2 years at a Big 4 firm. That was the only reason too.
First one i ever heard to "not" get a cpa.... lol, big difference in an Accountant vs a cpa dollar wise and future.... lol w.e....
