Do people enjoy the process of work in consulting? Creating decks and using excels most of the time gets quite tiring. I know the importance of our work but the actual working process makes me feel empty sometimes.

Feel like going into a technical role like analytics would make work more engaging for me.

Just thought of sharing this across. Wanted to know what consultants generally think of this.

I get what you’re saying but all jobs have their cons and positives. We get to facilitate workshops, conduct interviews, do analysis etc.

I don’t think writing queries, cleansing data etc. is all that sexy either (common tasks in the role you described).

I made the move from strategy to analytics. Not much more fulfilling here either lol. I put together to coolest pipeline for a client, and really felt like I put something together for a client. Then I realized that none of it matters and all I did was allow an f500 clients invoicing system to run a little faster lol

Worked at a well-known bank before in an analytical position. I used less powerpoint but even more excel and way more inhouse products that were really annoying. I'd even say from daily work, consulting is rather nice.

Feel like tech roles in general are overrated. Many of the roles focus on these niche and obscure problems as opposed to being bigger-picture more strategic problem solving that consulting engagements can give you. EX) you are a Swe that focuses on the comments function for google docs. That’s your focus…….

I love making decks the same way a pro athlete likes practicing.
But I truly, genuinely love solving problems for companies. That’s what keeps me here.

I think I bombed a case interview with Chartis for an associate consultant position. The case was in excel and required me to manipulate the data via share screen with the interviewer. I couldn’t get some functions to work and was struggling to go through the 16 page PDF of data. I had several answers correct but needed to walk through the remaining questions with some guidance. My other 3 case interviews went well and I had great conversation with the partner for behavioral interview. Thoughts?
