How are you all feeling about going into the holiday season while being remote? Missing the company holiday parties, or happy to be able to do your own thing?

If buy the partners you work with regularly a holiday gift, how much do you spend? Usually I get baked goods or food items which you can’t tell the actual amount spent on. This year, though, I’d like to support local restaurants by encouraging people to order takeout—hence, giving gift cards.

I have an offer for a company abroad. Originally they wanted me to fly out and start the day after Thanksgiving (not celebrated in their country), but because of the holidays I suggested starting in either December or January with the ability to take some holiday days in December to fly back home for Christmas. What holiday party did you get?
Anyone living close to an office, got a holiday party with food and drinks, and the venue started open for them until around midnight. Our remote workers got a one hour party w a DJ and trivia that let you win gift cards. Yeah it was nice to win a gift card but I found it lame in comparison to hanging out with my team in real life.

How is Forvis? I am thinking about applying for an entry level audit associate position. Is it nice working for them? Do you get to travel on audits? Also, is the unlimited pto truly unlimited?

How does one tell their boss (owner of the company) that you are burnt out? The sheer volume of work is exhausting and I haven’t taken a true vacation as we are a small company so if something urgent comes to my email I feel like I must respond. I was given an additional title and more responsibilities last year as well but only a 3% raise for it.

What are your thoughts on pay discrepancies based on family structure? Ex. Two people do the same job but one is paid more or given a larger bonus “because they have kids and you live alone” or “because their family is struggling”. Got an email from someone who is supposedly wanting to hire my firm, but a few things are giving me pause: 1) I’m a rising third year, so idk why they are emailing me, 2) it just says “dear attorney” then the short message, not my name (though practice group is correct), 3) it is from a gmail email address, not the company. Unfortunately was dragged into an audit despite the fact I don’t work in audit. Why does audit RM say yeah your hours will be 50 hours/week when you’ll have to work way more to do the audit. Seems very dumb - if you have work do it, if not don’t work…

So my VP at my previous company felt bad and refused to speak to me or attend my farewell after my resignation. His reason was that I somehow betrayed his trust as he had promoted me just last year (after keeping the position open for 4 months and letting me take additional work load after the previous SM left!). Does this make any sense? I mean where does this sense of entitlement or ownership over the employees come from? No wonder the company in question is kind of facing a literal exodus!
