Depends what you’re talking about….
I’ve worked in healthcare and patients have very negative opinions of doctors/nurses they see smoking and/or overweight. As in “who are they to tell me my diet is unhealthy - look at him/her”
Addictions (alcohol, drugs, gambling) can definitely impact perceptions of effectiveness, competence, reliability and credibility if it becomes known the person has these issues, or impacts work performance
Or were you thinking of something more mundane?
Of course, everything about someone's life affects their credibility and effectiveness. If it's widely known that someone engages in transgressive behavior, such as cheating on their spouse, that will impact how people view them. Conversely, if someone is known to be charitable, that will influence how people see them. If someone is in a leadership position, anything can matter.
I definitely think that it can depending on what we are talking about. I think people's integrity both inside and outside of work are a direct reflection of their credibility and so sometimes that means people stop trusting them based on decisions they have made outside of work.
