Does anyone else feel compelled to buy stuff from nice people even though you don’t need it?! And if so, does the personality of the sales person matter the most in how well they do?

Every. single. time. Street vendors, small shops, anything. If they're nice I will buy something because I can't help it lol

🤦‍♀️ the kids next door are always selling something. Lemonade, link bracelets, …

Yes until my anxiety about clutter and waste starts to creep up, and I would USUALLY walk away. Now food or drink is a whole another story 😬

Yes. I do not need girl scout cookies, but when they stop by and ask I will box a few boxes. I do not mind and actually enjoy supporting a lemonade stand or a girl scout.

Damn!! Maybe we need to hire kids as sales people in our firms 😂😂😂

To me, sales still has that “used car salesperson” feel - pushy, need an answer now and totally feels like I need a shower to get rid of the sleaze.

So, when I have a friend selling something or you get a refreshing nice conversation/connection, you want to buy from that person. Old school Mary Kay supporter here because I want them to be encouraged to keep trying the skill.

I’m a minimalist, so I might buy snacks but that’s all. People respect my need to prevent clutter when I tell them.

I started a new job last monday; this is my first corporate job after college. My senior manager ( my manager’s manager) scheduled a 1:1 with me on Friday and she expects me to have questions.
What should ask? I'm already being trained by my peers, so I don't really understand the dynamic.

I accidentally pinged my partner, "Kill Me." His response "I can't."

How do you deal with making mistakes at work? I’ve been doing good work lately but there’s one partner who thinks I’m mistake prone and I just made a mistake on something he asked me to do, but I corrected it quickly. However, there is public record of my mistake.

Help- my SIL showed me two dresses she rented for my shower, and I think they are super bridal/not very appropriate to wear as a guest or bridesmaid. I have asked others and they agree. I feel like my own outfit, a simple jumpsuit, pales in comparison to how over the top these dresses are. What can I say or do? I feel really down but also don’t want to start WW3 by saying something to her. I feel like I now need to rush to buy a new outfit.

Is it actually safe for my manager to ask me to drive my truck in the winter? I normally wouldn't mind since I've done it before, but this particular guy just told me to "drive slow" instead of providing me with the necessary safety measures to avoid accidents.

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

My friend works in-house at a national home-goods chain. Management recently told the entire design team they are barred from having portfolio websites and shouldn’t promote themselves while working for the company. They are also barred from posting work on social media, even if it’s already launched and in the public domain. This seems wholly unreasonable to me. Are demands like this common? Or enforceable?
