Yes, its hard to get people to give actionable feedback. Look around at your company for someone that is opinionated, and have them shadow you and give you feedback. Also identify what good looks like. Who is the best, shadow them, see if there is something they are doing that you aren't.
Coach
I would set the expectation for continuous improvement. That way, others are not in a situation to point out what you didn’t do well, but rather focus on how we as a team can identify areas for improvement.
If the sales/account resource doesn't set an internal post client call review then I do. Things to cover should be:
1. Overall what went well and what could be better
2. Review of any take-away/to-do's including timing (to be shared back to the client).
3. Brutal Honesty moment: give me one thing you thought I did well AND one thing where I needs improvement/could have gone better.
Yes, 20 years as an SE and someone always has a comment on how to do better. Take it as someone being helpful and make changes as needed.
Coach
I think after a while, it’s easy to detect someone trying to coach you to help you grow, or someone who is just using you as a target or nefarious. If it’s the former, you’re doing great and there’s always something to improve. Those are gifts.
