I’m a technical sales engineer in the building automation space. 2 years out of college. Anybody have any advice on the best way to get into the tech industry as a sales engineer? Appreciate any insights or advice

Target a company, study / train on the tech the best you can, ask questions of current SEs at tech companies you're targeting. Then network your way in to a hiring manager (if possible)

What Salesforce said.

In addition, I made a similar transition and am now in Tech now. It kind of depends on your background. Are many of your current responsibilities applicable in a Tech SE role? If so, in your interviews, be sure to highlight those experiences.

Network a lot. My manager keeps a list of warm candidates that he’s been introduced to. He already has a good idea of who he would hire before head count is opened. Formal job posting is a formality at that point.

Late to the game but here to say, stick it out. This industry is rapidly growing and experiencing a shortage of seasoned SE’s. You may want to shop around within the industry though.

Insight welcomed.

I’m an SE who works 2 AE’s, and from looking at the market am on the bottom end of the pay scale. The company I work for has many different products/services (80+), so they wanted SEs to take on a local “SME” role in a specific area, to support other members of the team.

This role has ramped up quite a bit recently, and people have been coming to me for help with their deals (overviews, demos, POCs) which is increasing my workload.

How would you approach asking for more money here? Thanks!

Currently a Solutions Consultant at Pegasystems.

I am interviewing at and considering making a jump to
Oracle as a Specialist Solutions Consultant.

The reason for my move is currently at Pega SCs are treated more as AEs or Account Managers. The role at Oracle would be more of a true SC position. I also feel that Oracle will look BETTER on a resume and someone as young as me would have BETTER programs in place to train me and give me the foundation needed to be a successful SC.

Thoughts?
