You’re probably better served finding some good product management podcasts and blogs, and trying to implement some best practices in your own org. Marty Cagan, Lenny Ratchitsky, Shreyas Doshi, etc…
This is great advice thanks, hoping it makes me a better PM as well
There's a massive gap in product leader talent. When you do have the privilege of working with a real one, you'll immediately know it.
Honestly, it depends on the company too. I've worked with great leaders who were let go for one reason or another and in their place, they hire someone who doesn't actually know what product management is.
In other words, even when you do get a great product leader, they're not always appreciated, valued or trusted at the higher levels of the company, which will severely hinder their (and your) impact.
Where are you struggling to make progress? I've found that often, you just need to do best product practices and show the results. It's really difficult to explain the value levers product can and should add to the company to other people. They need to just see it in a way they can understand
Yes! I’m fortunate to have worked for 2 founders at a company. When they left, they became my mentors.
And now I’ve found my way back to working for one of them again. Haven’t worked this hard in YEARS but worth it.
PM2 has hit the nail. When you find one, you know it. Otherwise you die a bit inside everyday coasting.
Where’s the stall? Getting your ideas across? Having leadership see your value? Something else?
I had a great leader, very positive, very energetic. Unfortunately there was a RIF with the company I was working with and I was let go in march
