Just start applying and craft your story for what you did off, but honestly that’s for normal jobs. You’ve got the background, don’t owe any explanation. That’s why we chose accounting.
What do you mean by normal jobs?
I know you said industry, but would you be willing to go back to big4 for 6mo to a year as a senior then pivot out to industry?
Personally I left PA as a audit senior CPA and took several years off. When I came back, the places that gave me interviews very quickly were public accounting.
Definitely give industry a try. Make sure to have a good response when they ask you why you left and what you were doing in your time off. If you can’t find any good industry roles, possibly consider doing public for a short time then making the jump, as more places will interview you if you currently have a job. Accounting advisory is a good place to be in public if you want lower hours generally than audit.
Thanks for your comment. I don’t think it’d be terribly hard to ask to be back in public especially during busy season coming up, but I ideally would not like to be part of those hellacious hours again. If so, then at least other advisories like cfgi would give overtime which makes it more palatable. I’ll take your comment to reapply and just see what is out there.
