Does anyone here wear pant suits? I hate the thought of needing to wear a suit for an event and wondering what’s even in these days in terms of suits.

Trousers are very in style so if you want to avoid wearing a full suit you could pair a cute wide leg trouser with a fun coordinating blazer … I think this can still present very professional but not as rigid as a true matching suit. I would say generally work places and events are more casual than they were even 6 years ago when I was interning … depends on the event, industry and broader culture ofc. As a woman, the last thing you want be is underdressed relative to your male counterparts.

In short, no I don’t wear suits anymore…

Yes I do. I love a wide or straight leg trouser. Though if you hate this idea you could wear a professional dress or skirt with a suit jacket. I stick to a lot of black, dark grey & tan/beige for all these items. Then white and fairly neutral blouses & collared shirts because they are easy to mix and match.

I love them but it’s so hard to find the right fit for the pants

As a fresher have you ever been on the receiving end of office politics/indirect negative comments from your seniors. If so, how did you deal with it?

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. I’m not sure if he’s changing the meaning or isn’t communicating what he’s envisioning or what but it’s embarrassing to be called out like that, and to have people think you’re the dumb 23 year old.

My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?

How much is appropriate for a restaurant gift card from an associate to a partner?

Inspired by one of my kids' favorite books, I penned this masterpiece of an Ode to Consulting:

One senior partner all alone
Calls two managing directors on the phone
Three associate partners at the door
Bring along another four
Five senior managers come overdressed
Six managers show up with a guest
Seven senior consultants arrive in a sack
Eight associates sneak in the back
Nine analysts come to work
ALL THE CONSULTANTS GO BERSERK!!!

Ok, I'll show myself out now... 😂

Monday Morning rumination: unsolicited advise is criticism.

Much to reflect on with this topic. Last week I was told in a 1:1 with a new contact that I was “too direct”. After some time chewing on the conversation I was struggling to place the emotions I was feeling. Turns out I was feeling guilty and shame for being me, for taking up space. Lesson of the week: unsolicited advice is a criticism of you, a micro aggression of who you are, and being “too much”. What would you do??
