Question for those in "tech" cities. I am in Northern VA and view this area as a potential tech destination of the future as FAANG moves towards servicing the federal govt (see HQ2). Is there much of a premium in terms of pay for the accountants in the current tech cities? Is a career in FAANG as an accountant better than public accounting if you never expect to make partner? Ok, I’m in. What are the salaries of some of the jobs you guys are doing, and the daily demands (hours and typical time of day you need to be “online”)? Are we talking working 2 90k jobs or the second job is a $35k data entry side gig?

Currently have J1 as current employer used The work one for my BC. I looked at Equifax/ The work one to see if J2 uses that service, fortunately they don’t.
Question - if J2 runs a BC for J1 and Finds out I am still employed isn’t that a red flag?

I’ve been on the bench with J1 for about 3 months. I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. I’ve kept J1 because I’m still on the bench doing absolutely nothing and getting paid. Thinking about looking for a role on a project with J1 that’s not along my career path but will allow for me to do work with no calls so that I can manage both jobs. Does anyone have experience or advice?

Anyone willing to explain the basic steps of getting a J2 as a consultant or contractor? Do I need an LLC first? Do I do paperwork then find clients or wait till I have clients first?

I am wondering if I can do this. It feels daunting but also I’ve accepted an offer from another company but don’t know if it is what I want but I think I also don’t feel comfortable in my current situation. I wonder how long I could maybe do this but not sure.
