It’s definitely holding you back. Social agencies need to move with speed and think social first - something that many senior creatives and traditional production people struggle to pull off bc they’re used to different formats, timelines and budgets.
The best social agencies are now using strategists paired with creators in house or on their extended roster - people who’s know how to ideate, shoot and more importantly, edit quickly in a way that makes it feel native to the platform.
I’ve worked under that model you’re thinking about. I find content creators are great to have in the room, and are especially good at trends and platform first thinking. That said, they don’t always have the same conceptual training as creatives. You need both.
In 2026, social is always on the list of deliverables, so hiring traditional creatives with social in their book is important. The best creative departments I’ve worked in are integrated, and they communicate better when social is in that department not separate.
An agency becomes social first when everyone sees it as another rectangle to put a good idea, not an afterthought.
Love when all the progressive “social-first” agencies hire a bunch of traditional folk from large holding co agencies. It’s never not happened.
