Really sucks how unfair life can be
Hard earned mean -🐢

I have had several rounds of interviews for a role at Visa London office. When I reached out to the HR to check on progress/status after what they called the "final round", they said everything is positive and then set up another round with the hiring manager last week. TBH, that round seemed as if they want to make sure I have understood the job well. And there has been radio silence after that. Any idea how to read this? I have another offer and deliberating if i should just accept that.

There’s a lot of different avenues here. Do you not like the industry or the specific organization? Sometimes companies can make or break your perception of a job as a whole and others can help you fall in love with it.
Maybe you can explore other passions on the side. I’ve been working in PR/comms over a decade and maintained a side hustle in an entirely different industry my entire career to keep me engaged with my multiple interests. Most people aren’t myopic and I personally refuse to buy into corporate culture that says we should live and breathe our jobs.
There are definitely people in the comms world who live and breathe comms. Good for them! But from what I’ve encountered, most people have a diversity of interests and tap into those to maintain more balance.
Mentor
Personally, I love my job. And I’m in a role (now) that I honestly could see myself in for the next 10+ years (maybe even until retirement). My role is specifically more focused on one discipline: media relations.
When I’m not at work, I’m thinking about comms strategies: what I could be doing, new ideas, and more. Not in a “oh god, this more if going to kill me” kind of way but more in a “this work is fascinating and I can’t stop thinking about it” kind of way.
What I will say is, while I have always known comm and PR is the likely path I’ll end up on. I didn’t know media relations was the place for me. I knew I didn’t have a big passion for what others seemed to be obsessed with at the time “social media” and influencers. Although I was a good employee I didn’t feel particularly inspired by traditional PR account management at agencies. Because of this disconnect-I felt likely the same feeling you have. I questioned my future. I remember asking one of my agency leads about what it would be like to pivot to event management (because events were a place that sparked joy). I didn’t end up pursuing because I do appreciate more money and I didn’t think there was money there.
All this to say is-yes I like my job but that takes time. Figure out what you like about comms. I think so often people think and believe you have to LOVE what you do like you love a hobby. But it is a different type of like.
Id encourage you to think about what specific parts you actually like doing in your role AND you are good at—then figure out how do do more of that. Maybe it’s in the role you are in now. I also found it inspiring to scroll LinkedIn jobs to see all the different types of roles to see what is out there. “Communications” covers such a broad range of skills-each “Comms manager” role you read is so different than the next. You may find one that fits perfectly with the niche you care about. (That’s how I found a mid-level role in house devoted completely to proactive media relations)
not really
If it is not bad, find something outside of work to dwell on. Consider what location in the world would be more beautiful to live and let that be your path to new enlightenment. The job that is arrives through that journey will answer this question and you may even forget the question altogether. Plan your escape while you're getting the easy money.
I was in that boat a few years ago. The organization I worked for changed philosophies and practices as new management came along. I don't think I could work outside of coms, but I knew I was stuck in a rut.
I started looking around at other opportunities. It wasn't a hardcore job search, but things nearby with similar pay. I got a new job and I love it. I'm doing similar work but with more positive vibes. I'm also doing more writing and content creation. I love that more than the planning, coordinating, and business side of things. It's work that I believe in and org with values that I align with. I feel like the messages that I put out there can help people.
