@OP, I did some research for you. Darden sent 17% of class into tech; Fuqua sent 19%. Darden doesn't post individual company hiring numbers but fuqua does. Numbers hired from Fuqua from class of 2016:
Amazon - 15
Microsoft - 13
Google - 6
(All three of the above are top 11 companies hiring the most grads, only beaten really by MBB)
So this adds to the argument for Fuqua
I personally would say Duke, but depends on what your goals for an MBA are
Tim Cook and Melinda Gates both graduated from Fuqua.
Congrats on two great options
Both are in the same tier of not being hbs stanford booth mit so just know where you want to be going in and what exactly to get into after. Personally, fuqua network has opened endless doors for me. Fuqua just sent a ton of graduates to Bay Area(with obvious pipeline to research triangle and all of the duke grads in NYC) and pipeline looks to be strengthening in each of those three areas.
Darden all the way. No discussion
I know folks from both, who have great careers and very positive about the programs. Many were in the same dilemma various factors played into their final decision over and above placements etc. You won't go wrong with either. Also in the end it depends on the circumstances at the time of graduating. McK1 - great inputs! You rock! OP - Congratulations on the offers!
And Duke basketball!
Check their employer outcome statistics online to see which sends more into Tech
Dook
@PwC1, Fuqua does place well into MBB, but they are, in general, recruited more regionally than nationally. The national targets are HSW, Booth, Kellogg, MIT, and tuck mostly
@Pwc1, I would say the default for most MBB is to put students in Atlanta or another SE Atlantic office. Getting on the radar for a SF or NYC office is possible, just much harder. And while McK and BCG are less office centric than Bain, it's still generally harder for those offices than at an M7.
And I personally don't attach hierarchy to offices but NYC and SF and CHI tend to carry more prestige because they're generally more competitive as more people want to live there than elsewhere. I'm guessing it's similar at most other firms as well: like PWC NY versus in say Charlotte or OKC.
And the reason this matters is if you're working in LA and go to Fuqua for MBA hoping to land MBB back in LA, it may be more difficult than if you went to say Harvard or Kellogg or Wharton.
Duke Fuqua without doubt - Amazing experience, great job offers, and the Duke brand!
Duke Fuqua! Has been doing really well placing students with technology companies.
What do you want to do post-MBA
Charlottesville vs Durham. Even with what happened recently, Cville > Durham as a college town. Both schools are comparable with tech placement
McK1 - I didn't realize Fuqua placed that well into MBB. Good to know
Duke without doubt. Much more established brand IMO. Could be considered top 10, don't think UVA could.
@PwC4, interesting. Did you go there? I don't know darden's stats because they weren't publicly published.
I want to transition out of consulting into tech (think Microsoft or equivalent)
