During a recent team discussion about diversity quotas, someone posed an interesting question: "If we hire someone just because they’re different, are we really being diverse?" It sparked a debate.
Having diversity involves creating a culture that values varied experiences and perspectives. However, others argued that focusing solely on diversity might overlook merit.
How do we balance embracing uniqueness while ensuring everyone is qualified? What’s your take on this complex issue?

I think the point of diversity hiring is not to lower the bar, but to widen the door. There’s no shortage of qualified candidates from underrepresented groups... they’re just often overlooked. The system needs balance, not excuses. But i have too often seen subpar candidates chosen to tick the box.

That's a really good way of looking at it, 'widening the door' I like that. I just wish it was already wide open for everyone.

Solely hiring based on diversity is the wrong approach IMO. So too is hyper-fixating on merit alone. I think finding some sort of middle ground is the way to go.

Absolutely, there's so many factors that come into play when looking at hiring someone. It's really opened my eyes.

I agree with both comments above, you can’t bas your decision on just going by diversity, that is the definite wrong approach.

Absolutely. Employers just feel pressure because it gets noted if there's only employees of a certain ethnicity for example. We can't just hire people because of this though.

Hi. I’m relatively new to recruiting and my role is primarily in supporting recruiters. I’ve noticed that even when I include a specific request or call to action, that my emails receive a response less than 50% of the time. Is this lack of responsiveness indicative of company culture or more about the culture of recruiting, since they receive so many emails? Thoughts? I’ve not experienced this rate of responsiveness in any organization I’ve worked for. I am beginning to take it personally.

Anyone here works at NewRocket? Any feedback about the company ? Culture ? WLB? People ?

My wife and I are moving to Boston from overseas (we’re from Italy and we’ve recently won the diversity visa green card lottery).

We are looking to rent a 1BR starting in January, ideally for ~$3k/month. I’ll be working in the downtown area.

Do you recommend we go for a serviced/luxury apartment (e.g. Montaje, 345 Harrison, etc.) or hire a broker to get a “normal” apartment?

Any managed buildings recommendations within our budget? Also, what are some good brokers we could work with?

Thanks!

Hi All- I’m looking for a super simple time tracking platform to integrate with Asana for a team of 5.
