Ever watch Mad Men and think, I want to sell like Don Draper?

His pitch wasn’t just words, it was storytelling, emotion, and timing. That’s the real art of sales.

What’s your “Don Draper move” the one thing that makes your pitch unforgettable?

The move that I feel I have perfected is having a personal conversation to build trust in the deepest way. Emotionally and personally. I allow myself to step away from the pitch for a minute to learn about the customer. I fight my way to find something somewhere and I allow my conversation to open up and feel vulnerable. I have a way that I am able to speak to people that allows them to let their walls down and breathe. Empathy is a superpower in the world of sales and I believe it could make you a better, if not the best salesman.

Don't get too empathetic though.

Wow that is quite a pitch. What do you sell if you dont mind me asking?

I sell a niche packaging product and my Don Draper moment is helping new and small business dream big, and it feels amazing!

That's pretty cool. Do you have a power suit you pitch in like Don?

AWS vs Cloudflare BDR roles

AWS lowballed but I negotiated to match Cloudflare. Cloudflare offers more equity but AWS has a higher base.

I love Cloudflare. The people are great but it’s an engineering culture and the sales team isn’t as well shaped up and I can’t go for a promotion until at least 18 months of tenure. I am an investor in the company and think of them super highly. I’ve already got half a years SDR experience and AWS promotes quicker.

AWS has prestige but is it worth it?

From that conversation, I saw instant red flags. Any thoughts?
