Hi guys,
Need help,I am joining VMware Banglore on 27th June. During interview I told them I need wfh. They said it wil be wfh this entire year. Only mistake I did was i didn't permanent wfh. I took for granted like once I join i can opt for it ( as my VMware friends had said we can opt for it)
Now the offices have started, I am scared if they call me to office , I have 14months son, not willing to leave him n go for office.
So if I ask manager to give me permanent wfh will they agree ?
Is Nagarro good to join? I have a fully remote opportunity which I'm pretty sure I can crack. Is the pay and benefits good at Nagarro? Do they provide laptop and test devices or will I have to work on my laptop? Do they give medical insurance etc? What if the project gets over. Do they have enough projects or will I be asked to move to a different technology? Will I be fired if on bench? Nagarro

What's the salary range for a director at the Gilead Sciences foundation? There is a position perfect for me, but I don't want to throw my hat in the ring if starting salary isn't $180-190k. Also, any thoughts on the stability of their philanthropic commitment? There's talk of a recession; I don't want to go private to be cute a few months later.

Love this message of "people sit around at home all day doing nothing" coming from a guy who spends all day arguing on Twitter.

Who would have thought that spending 10 hours a week commuting back and forth to work so you can be trapped in a cubicle listening to your coworker talk about their kid's halloween costume for the 4th time would be a turn off to some.

Sometimes, the world is just and bad things happen to bad people too.
It’s going to be very difficult to get SWEs back into the office at Tesla with bad WLB and middle of the road pay when they can work fewer hours for more money at home for Google.
I’ve never understood the mentality of trying to manage what people are doing all day. I get that in a factory or a warehouse with manual labor, but I don’t understand for professional jobs. If you are focused on deliverables, outcomes, and metrics then that’s all I care about. If you worked 20 hours during the week and got the job done then good for you.

People work harder in the office: mostly true
The logic is there
Pro
SA1 you’re confusing an assertion with logic
Uhg had to go into the office last two weeks literally got half as much done in twice the time.
Maybe he can start putting his multiple children to work
Every time another one of these companies fails with a misguided back to office plan a few folks come along and say it was just a way to lay people off. And then the company always has to backpedal to keep employees and calm investors. These “leaders” are really that foolish, there was no grand strategy. 🤣
Take his money and accomplishments and he is such a bad human.

Elon is very very good at many many things, and he’s obviously extremely accomplished. None of us are good at everything though, and I think many, including himself, can suffer from the halo effect. Just because he’s done a lot right, doesn’t mean every decision he has made it right. I think the twitter thing was never a match and I’ve been saying I wasn’t sure about this decision of his for a while now. He’s a great engineer and entrepreneurs but he’s not the people guy.
His consultants are his bros on Twitter. And even then only if they agree with him.

This is a soft layoff without freaking investors out.

Tesla isn't worried about recruiting and employee morale because its not looking to hire significantly.
The reality is that the majority of people who wanted to and could go work at Google are already doing so.
In this case, Tesla is looking to cut non-factory workers especially administrative overhead without having to deal with the increased cost of layoffs.

This is just a way to lay off people without saying the word "layoff."
High performers who are working remotely are, even according to this article, being given exceptions to continue working remotely.
There are all sorts of financial benefits to this sort of approach especially if its a "mass layoff."
When someone "quits," you don't have to pay for severance or health insurance.
In addition, the having a "layoff" significantly impacts the unemployment insurance tax rate for the company which can be a huge issue moving forward.
TL;DR - This isn't about working "remotely," its a scummy way to layoff people without getting hit with the financial and reputational costs of doing so.

You’re right, but Tesla has other problems…the brand was trashed ever since Elon musk went on his whole hate-speech-is-good-speech crusade
Overall my productivity from home is better, mostly due to ease of doing deeper-thinking work from 9pm-12am (maybe once or twice per week).
In the office, this type of work would take longer and prob not be as good, due to distractions. And I wouldn’t be willing to work late nights at home, if I was spending 2hrs+ per day commuting to the office.
Can also just go on mute and fart whenever
Shame you shame Emperor Elon. He know all. He rule with iron fist.
But... But... Us extroverts LIKE the office.
