Hey energy team! New here, but I am on Deloitte GPS's energy and climate team! We mainly work with the Department of State and USAID to help developing countries improve access to energy, upgrade their grid infrastructure, or help find donor funding for large deployments of renewables. Love working here, and think the international development angle is really cool :)
Bumping an old thread. I’m a director in a small firm that has historically been industry agnostic. I’m interested in developing a specialization in energy for the future. Any suggestions on where to start or if this is a good idea?
Data Scientist here, I'm currently working on implementing ML models to predict electrical loads of residential homes. The predictions will be used to schedule demand response events via smart thermostats and (hopefully) help prevent black and brown-outs during peak periods.
Besides that, I typically assist clients and program managers with data analysis and some software engineering.
Sounds like an awesome gig. Load forecasting in the context of various DER adoption is getting pretty critical for power companies. Society has embraced a transition to renewables on the supply-side of the electric grid, let’s see how long it’ll take for society to embrace flexibility on the demand-side of the grid. Both are equally important in my view.
Hats off to ICF for their growth it that space.
It’s not being done in Consulting with Big Energy. It’s being done in wind and solar start-ups that act more like tech. They use boutiques if they use anything.

Anyways currently at ISO-NE so the system operator for the New England region of the US. I have a mechE background but am doing analysis of audits. My company has been a great way to tune into progress and challenges facing the energy transition!
Nice! Imagine you’ll develop a unique perspective on things working for one of the grid operators, especially around some hot topics (renewable interconnection, market reform, etc).
Tons of opportunity in the sector to make several pivots while also consistently contributing to complex and impactful problem solving. Feel like anyone who joins the industry soon or has been in the mix for a bit are pretty much set to have long, meaningful careers.
