I think everyone is giving OP a hard time here. It's frustrating to have something be a perk and then have it taken away.
I'm sorry everyone who is mad at OP. The medium age at EY worldwide is 28. So it is important to keep 50% of their workforce happy. That said, if times are tough, I'd like to hear leadership tell it like it is and ask for people's support through these measures. The idea that "things are spectacular" met with tightening of the belt moves give two different messages.
I can go work at any firm. I don't need to be thankful to have a job. I'm only doing this for another 2-3 years and then getting my own business, so yes I'm literally in it to enjoy the perks and make a network. I have no aspirations of getting past manager. Why deepen other people's pockets by working hard and not seeing the benefit?
I'm seeing an entirely different standard of expectations. The card? Over the last few years it was providing drastically reduced value to the active traveler (points are a different concern that covers you as a consumer, not you on the road looking to be comfortable in a long airport layover). The cell? Yeah, that was stupid and stupidly and abruptly ordered. Annnnd they've backed off until at least the new year. And holiday parties? Your really rely on greatness in office parties? Wow. Don't know what to say in that. Yeah these all point to a review of expenses and value and what the firm wants to subsidize or not and they are cutting back. That might be of concern for career and planning reasons. But shafted? By these? God no. Raises, bonuses, education, career opportunities, brand name. THESE are concerns. Cutting back 5$ a month on what they reimburse me for my private cell phone? Seriously? You're watching the wrong ball. --Luv, your Auntie Pollyanna
Op sounds like an entitled millennial
Atlanta office "party" is from 11-1 at the college football HOF and not plus ones
It's is a bit ridiculous that there are no plus ones for the holiday party when FSO advisory has yearly double digit revenue growth. people join EY for the culture, let's keep that going, not strip it away! Hear Chicago still has dates. Respect.
Cutting things like this appear nitpicky and "cheap"
That is really BS! If you cut like that you are just p... people off. Might just as well not do it.
Each office does holiday parties/celebrations differently - been like that for the last few years
Hm. And the firm gets cheaper.
Yeah fuck off for people who tell us to be thankful for what we have. Most of us worked to get here. Studied hard and performed well. I don't need to be fucking thankful that my work ethic is better than other people
Do people actually go to holiday parties anymore?
Detroit office is the same as it has always been: formal celebration on a Friday at a fancy venue, with a guest. I would happily do away with it for even the smallest tangible benefit in exchange.
To OP and all of the other entitled first world dwellers - keep on thinking your shit doesn't stink and that because you have stamina to put in long hours means that you deserve subsidies above and beyond getting a paycheck/bonuses on time and putting a great brand on your resume. You are in for a rude awakening. OP, I hope you get that business off the ground and hire amazing employees with your mentality.
People talking about OP being an entitled Millennial are drinking way too much Kool Aid. The recent measures EY has taken have been bullshit and cheap. FSO keeps up our double digit growth and the perks of our jobs just keep going down. I'm not entitled, but I work my ass off an expect the firm to take care of people and maintain a good culture. @EY2 I would much rather prefer the firm cut dead weight and spent it on the top performers who are consistently utilized, sell and deliver work.
Why do you mean? We have holiday parties
Oh and must take bus from the office. Parking or uber not reimbursable.
What was the platinum status benefit?
EY4: EY Chicago does NOT have dates or plus ones this year.
