Hi! I just went through this process myself, and looked through a variety of different examples. The best formats I’ve seen did the following:
1. Had a general set of bullets at the top of the consulting firm section on key accomplishments like firm initiatives etc
2. Created a mini sub section per project below, with sub bullets summarizing the project overview/type and key accomplishments on the project
3. Note I always like to say “select project experiences highlighted below” so it’s clear you have more to offer than just the ones you chose to list!
As far as what to focus on, yes, it’s dependent on the role, etc. I am currently interviewing for and industry role, and will say that I did not include details on my internal initiatives in my resume itself, but I did make a quick mention at the top of my consulting section (“spearheaded x initiatives”). Then I gave details during my initial interview. My interviewer sounded pretty impressed with my internal work, which caused me to think that I should definitely highlight it on future resumes.
Just reread your question - as far as impact to PwC vs client deliverables, if you’re applying to industry (or really anything besides consulting), I would focus on impact to client and project scope (business functions, project type, project size).
I don’t think most people outside of consulting would appreciate very detailed deliverable overviews, so for descriptions of the deliverables themselves you would need to take it up a level and in terms anyone can understand (eg, “future state processes” instead of “level 4 process maps”). However, the scope of deliverables is often impressive and should be outlined in detail, as these are likely in terms anyone can understand (“recommendations across four business functions,” “developed network consolidation strategy across 144 sites”). Try to also quantify any direct or projected results of your consulting work (“provided recommendations projected to save $200m in annual costs”). Of course, you’ll want to communicate actual results as much as possible, but that can be tough depending on what kind of project you had and how long you stayed in touch with the client.
Thanks, M1! Both comments are very helpful
I wish there was a resume out there we could take a peak at to be inspired
