I never completely got out. I joined the Guard everytime I needed a break from the consulting world I went on orders that way I balance my career in both worlds. Not sure what your status is but that’s an option. While on orders you get the opportunity for paid certifications that could help you venture into something else
Late 30s with 3 kids. Went to consulting post-grad school after leaving the military. Still here. It doesn’t have to be your end all. A lot of us are always looking to jump to industry when opportunities arise. You never know what’s around the corner and you have plenty of time. Just keep working on being the best you.
I found a particular type of Consulting project work I enjoyed and was in demand at industry employers. Shopped myself around and eventually found a buyer.
I left for a CoS role, and I’m back. It wasn’t that leaving consulting was bad, just that the company I went to was a shit show, so after two years there needed to do something different and found a small consulting firm where I loved the leadership. EYP bought us a little while after.
Tech is where it’s at - better WLB because I don’t have customer facing meetings and better comp

Went into industry after service then pivoted into consulting. Late 30s here. I would recommend getting out of the labor for hire business and go own something on the corporate side. You’ll get more ownership and more satisfaction from your work.
SC1, I took a similar approach, except with the Reserves. It seems like a decent one I think.
