When building a new brand, who is the actual client? Who has the final say? Who should you really listen to if no one is taking the lead? The president of the company, the original owner, the financial money partner, the third party manager? Everyone seems to have a voice, but the main contact is the underling gathering and offering their own opinion, which strangely seems to be the most on point. How do you handle this type of situation?

My firm has offered to make me a partner if I am willing to relocate to San Francisco (currently in NYC). I’m in a support group, so partnership opportunities are difficult to come by and it sounds like if I decline I will be made counsel without much opportunity to be promoted. I’ve never been particularly motivated by the partnership tag and I know almost nobody in SF. But I also don’t have any significant ties to NYC. Would appreciate any thoughts you have.

Payback Clauses!! I received a sign-on bonus and was informed that if I left the company prior to 18 months I would have to pay back X% of my sign-on bonus. I recently accepted a new job and have flexibility as to when I put in my 2 week notice. If my 18 month anniversary date is on December 8th, can I put in my two week notice before this date with the understanding that my last day would fall after this date, or would it be safest to put in my 2 week notice after my 18 month anniversary date?
