EY Deloitte PwC people - would you leave your current employer for a 15%-25% total comp difference? This translates to a 25-45k difference per annum, largely driven by bonus at the new firm (20-40%), much smaller than my current employer. Doesn’t feel like a great exit opportunity - currently at big 4 this would be moving to a niche consulting company

If you’re white like me it’s so important to realize that we were raised in a society where institutionalized racism is normalized, and we were born with privilege. You can’t choose the color of your skin, but you can choose to put ego aside and reflect on why this isn’t happening to me, and be vocal about being anti-racist.

Thanks for saying this out loud. People please be aware, if you accept lower rates/salaries this unfortunately begins to set the standard across the board. This of it as a buyers comp for people.
Can you counter? What do you have to loose? If they just invested all of this time in having you freelance and liked you enough to make an offer, it’s a bird in the hand situation. They probably need you more than you need them. Otherwise they need to start over with another freelancer. More work for them.
I didn’t get the full salary I wanted (they did give a little) but worked extra vacation time and more flexibility in hours/on-site work to help make up for it. Good for my family situation.
It probably depends on how far you’re off. If it’s not far, you can try holding tight. I recommend having an honest conversation about where you want to be, and if they can’t get you there ask them when they can. Can they guarantee a bump in the new year when new budgets open up (their CFO can plan for that)? You can also ask for a plan —that’s triggered by specific metrics— to get you where you want. You could also ask for a signing bonus (it will hit their budget a little differently) in lieu of the amount you’re looking for.
Lots of options if they’re willing to play ball.
Is the freelance market really that bad?
#BeBest. (The freelance market isn't that good because your other FLs have a lower bar. Especially those from recruiters.)
Some recruiters out there are bloody horrible. I was told by one that if I didn't want to accept $40/hour (I'm a Copywriter/CD with 20+ years under my belt, D&AD, Obie, etc) then I should change careers because agencies are on tight budgets. Oh please. Tell me another one.
@seniorcopywriter2 - how’d that work out for you?
Do you have anything you can negotiate on? Can you decline benefits (and get them via a spouse) in exchange for more money? I’d say try to negotiate for a 4 day week but since you’re a creative no one would respect that anyway. Can you negotiate for a bonus/more bonus?
Does this ‘signing bonus’ thing exist for producers too?
Also, I don’t think the FL market is particularly bad, or hasn’t been for me. But I did recently get a call from a place offering less than half of my day rate (which is under $1k), and I wondered who is accepting rates that low and making the experience not suck enough that the employer would keep seeking talent at that level?
