Getting a weather advisory for my flight to ORD on Friday. So weird - how can they know that my flight will be affected when it’s still so far away?

There’s this fascinating new thingamajig called weather forecasting. I understand they have it on the interwebs somewhere. Apparently you can predict large weather systems and how they could affect air travel

like

lol have you ever been to Chicago before

like

We hit a critical desalinization point with the shift in the North Atlantic current. Weather is going to get crazy.

like

E1: agreed, but Chicago gets weather all the time. Just don’t know how they are already predicting cancellations!

But all this North Atlantic current talk makes more sense

Wait did the current change finally happen

Multiple sensors throughout the North Atlantic registered a 13 degree drop in temperature. A new ice age is coming faster than any models could have predicted.

😲

I think O’Hare can handle the 8-10” expected between Thursday evening and Friday though.

Hello all, i have. A question regarding compensation for a lateral move. I just received a job offer for an UA position from a competing cyber insurance carrier for $70,000 + bonuses. This job will be based out of San Francisco. I currently make $30/hour for the same role in Chicago, after OT it’s about $60,000. Do you think it would be wise to accept the offer? Thoughts in general?

Planning a trip to Rome and Naples with day trips to Tivoli and Pompeii. Is 1 week enough? I feel like reading through 3/4 day Rome and 2 day Naples itineraries, the trip seems rushed. I have unlimited PTO but my SO is limited in time (but luckily he can work extra hrs and then use less PTO). I would say max we could do is 1.5 weeks but adding on 3-5 more days seems almost too much? Thoughts? For reference, I did Venice-Florence-Rome in a week and it seemed okay but it also wasn’t as planned out

Pros:

- fairly decent place to work (from someone who worked with the Vancouver and San Jose offices). never met a blue badger (permanent employee) who had awful things to say.

- Ashley Goodall (their SVP, Methods & Intelligence) co-authored a brilliant book on leadership and people management called “Nine Lies About Work” that makes me believe they can be an awesome place to work

Cons:

- red badgers had low morale since they’re contract workers and can be terminated at any time

What’s a good exit from FDD that does not travel, less meetings, decent comp & wlb?

Hi Fishes

I'm using data jpa to connect to oracle DB in our API.

We have one scenario when the DB is down, then also normal flow should work.

Although it is working fine, but when we are checking the logs it's taking more than 1 second just to identify that the DB is locked, this is not within our SLA.

In the normal case it's processing within 200 ms.

We're using Spring Boot, Hibernate, Oracle 19c

Please provide some valuable suggestions from our side

Interviewing for Amazon L6 PMT role. Levels seems to be a bit outdated or the bases are all low. Is L6 a lateral move for PL (manager)? Friends joined as L6 post mba so seems like a ‘waste’ of 3 years in consulting to switch for the same job. Any credit for working these 3 years to shorten the time to L7?

Stern is way more than a finance school. Given its location, do you want to spend your 2 years in a rural area or heart of Manhattan? Location is almost everything for business school. (I have a friend in Cornell that frequently travels about 5 hours to NYC for events.)

I often fail at some interviews badly.
Not sure till when I'll be able to carry forward by this and the hard wlb at FAANG companies is giving me a fear.
