Good questions to ask on a second call back interviews generally with partners?

Can you give us more context? What year and practice are you? Are you trying to learn more about the firm or think of questions that show your serious interest?

I’m a junior attorney in a specialist group. I work in a similar group elsewhere and am more looking to show my interest in the firm (I have a good understanding of the practice which in turn has made it difficult to line up questions to ask)

I think this is where specific research on each individual partner’s practice comes to play. You’re in a unique position to be able to talk substantively about what they’ve worked on.

Ask questions that will tell you how well run the firm is. These five questions will get you most of what you need to know.

How many associates and staff members were let go in 2020?

Did the firm reduce comp for anyone in 2020 and if so did the cuts impact staff, associates, or partners?

Are partners required to contribute capital to the firm and if so what percentage of a years pay is each partner required to contribute?

What’s the makeup of the firm’s executive committee in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, and share level?

How much long term debt does the firm have?

Thanks for the insight TL1, might deploy that in my next move.

What are your excuses to leave your current job early for an interview at another agency?

I was interviewed for a major tech player in the hospitality industry, had 2 interviews which for the first one the recruiter was late, and didn't confirm the interview while I emaild her to make sure I do have an interview. When she attended she said that there was no point of responding my email as we are meeting anyway. Later on I had 2nd interview with the hiring manager. After 45 minutes she said they will let me know...

2 months later and I am still waiting...

Anyone familiar with the startup Hey Jane? I have an interview with them but I’m nervous of job security

I’ve been working for a company for 25yrs, looking for advancement. I’m considered an SME, managing people, Vendors and working on large system conversions. Have provided long term goals. When requesting feedback I’m told I’m on the right path, no suggestions on what to improve. I asked about timelines for advancement and not being given anything concrete. Recently interviewed with another company as a Vendor Mgmt partner. Individual contributor, high visible position with potential. Thoughts?

Hey fellow designers,

Is anyone else facing the brunt of working in a service based company and trying to move to a startup product company being dragged down by the 90 days notice period.

I have had a couple of interviews with good startup product companies where the main issue is my 90 days of notice period. Most startups simply run away at the mention of 90 days NP.

Even established product companies shy away at this. Has anyone recently switched despite this long a notice period?

How do you buy back time?

It's simple—by saving and investing.

And you don't need to be uber wealthy to regain control of your time.

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. I’ll of course prep for the interviews but am afraid to burn potential bridges if I ultimately decline because I’m still figuring things out.
