I think on-site is to your advantage - much easier to build rapport with your interviewers and minimizes chances of awkwardness or lag or tech issues due to video chat. With that said, if it’s absolutely unavoidable then remote is fine - I did my final round remote and still got an offer
*With the caveat that my final round was with 1 person, and I had completed multiple previous rounds (both video and on-site) prior to that
...Go in person.
1. It may seem like a small thing, but remember that Google is evaluating you on intangibles like “googlyness” which are easier to demonstrate while being at google itself.
2. It will give you a better sense of where you’d be working. Remember that interviews are a two way street.
3. If schedule for a Friday or Thursday and use the weekend to similarly get acquainted with the area.
Go onsite! There is something around meeting people in person. Interviewers are busy and if for some reason they are distracted, it is very easy to zone out on video rather than in person. Use the time to get to know the office , meet your future manager etc.
Try to get them to schedule it on a day convenient - Thursday Friday or even Monday. I love Mondays because you have the weekend to prep, less distracted from your day job, fresh with all the company research!
... also don’t know if being in person will help my case.
