First off, breathe. I’m really sorry this happened to you. I’ve been there myself so I know how scary it can be.
Second, take time if you are able to mentally regroup. I don’t know your financial situation or if you got severance, but just take a day or two or whatever to mentally regroup and do some self-care.
Third, get that résumé dusted off and ready to go. Are you on LinkedIn? If so, start applying to jobs. If not, get on it. Start applying to jobs as soon as you are ready to do so because the process does take a bit.
Finally, consider applying to in-house roles. I work as an in-house paralegal and billable hours are not a requirement. It definitely takes the pressure off of me.
Hang in there.
Thank you so much for your kind words!! I was Family law paralegal plus Landlord Tenant Rights; Escrow cases; so will be looking for that again. Thanks again!! Words gives us power and hope!!
Iam sorry; it’s tough; did you get severance? Iam afraid of the same however I moved 10 steps ahead & secured offers just in case; started interviewing 5-6 months ago; waiting on the performance review etc to accept; basically iam starting two jobs; true story; it takes 5-6 months to secure a good job on this market; I didn’t want to be in a situation where I was dependent on my severance & unemployment and God knows how long to secure a good job, which puts you in a vulnerable position to accept a lowball offer; what to do:
1. Update LinkedIn profile
2. Connect and ask for openings
3. Use FB too
4. Ask everyone/every law firm in your network
5. Apply to both/linkedin & indeed openings
6. Use a recruiter (my favorites: Robert Hadley & lease & labau;
Do all of the above; if you need help with your resume, have resume writer or reviewer help you; make sure you’re up to date with salary ranges;
Also, if you can share here your specialty and years of experience so we can help! You never know!
Thank you so much for your kind words!! I am having experience as a Family law paralegal and Landlord Tenants cases; in Maryland. If there is anything that would be helpful would appreciate it..
It's unfortunate but most employers most often have the right to fire people whenever they want and for most any reason. Exceptions are situations where there is a very obvious way to demonstrably show discrimination, another thing that most employers are also smart enough to avoid. Now when you go job hunting, make sure you ask all those questions you never got answers to from the last employer. Good luck out there. ♥️
I don’t know if should mention it or not but felt like I was replacement of somebody then it converted into extra hired and this happened.
What was your annual target and how much did you bill for the year?
It was 1200 per year; I just started like it’s being one and half month. Then this happened
In house is your next blessing. You won’t regret it. You got this.
I will be searching for that now!! Thank you
