Got hired as senior at new agency (didn’t ask for it). My book is nowhere near senior level. Would putting Senior on my LinkedIn, resume etc. limit my career opportunities at top shops in the future?

If anything I think it would do the opposite & open more opportunities!

How would this limit you?

It won’t limit your job opportunities but title inflation is a real problem in our industry. You may do yourself a disservice by skipping steps in your education and not being able to handle the responsibilities required at that level. There are pros and cons to planning your career for long- and short-term objectives, being selective about how you inflate yourself is one of them. I, personally, think the focus on the short-term is partly responsible for the rise of Imposter Syndrome. Guidance from a mentor, making mistakes in low-stakes situations, and figuring out your tolerance level for various tasks are just some of the benefits of being a junior that you can’t get once you’re saddled with more responsibilities and higher expectations.

Do any of you feel like you bear most of the mental workload in taking care of your kids? My husband is a great dad but I find that I’m the one thinking about and doing the little things for my baby, like planning her meals, being the one to order all her clothes when she outgrows something, thinking about how to help her meet milestones etc. obviously these things are my responsibility as her mom, it just gets tiring sometimes since all those things really add up with this job.

I have been purging EVERYBODY who pulls the “all lives matter” or “I support our police” card, but when it comes to industry connections idk how to handle it. I don’t want anything to do with them and want to do my part as a non-POC to call them out, but my city’s agency scene is so small & close knit I wouldn’t want to be blacklisted or make an enemy. How have you been approaching this?

I’ve been at my current agency for a few years now, it was my first job out of college. I’ve never been truly happy here but in the past few weeks I’ve been really miserable. My biggest issue is that what I do now is so niche that while I’m doing a good job, it hasn’t prepared me to work anywhere else. I’m always looking for new jobs but worry about losing the stability of what I have, however I know the longer I stay the less likely I’ll be to find something else.

Need advice. Just graduated (aug 18) got an entry level job as “director” of business development at an ad agency shortly after. Been in it for a few months. Dread cold outreach. Stay and suffer...

I’m sure people here have been in a situation where they were looking for another job while they were pitching some big ideas with their current agency. These are ideas you’d be proud to have in your book.

If one of these ideas was sold and you started getting offers from other places, what did you do? Did you stick around and see the work through or did you accept the offer and ask to be credited to some degree? Did you regret your decision or was there anything you wish you did differently?
