Hello everyone, I'm a recent PhD graduate in Chemistry with experience in drug discovery in rare disease. I'm really interested in a postdoctoral position that involves drug discovery as well as PK/PD at Merck and was wondering if anyone had any tips to get in touch with the recruiter for the role or the hiring manager. Thanks so much and excited to be a part of the Pharma and Biotech Fishbowl community!!

Plus if you're trying to work full time at the Amazon DC or any other similar position, minus for anything else you've been doing in your career
I appreciate the initiative. Time to work on your storytelling
Keeping busy, also work primarily in manufacturing so getting shop floor time I think will help my street cred so to speak when I get back into it. Plus driving a fork lift is fun.
Not relevant experience for your next hop. Don’t do it. Do take the job for extra income though if you prefer it to government unemployment assistance.
As a former director, do you really need the money to survive? Will you be able to do labour work for low wages?
We need to understand why you'd be willing to work in a warehouse. Does it open up internal Amazon corporate job postings? In this case, I see some upside.
No it gives me something to do, and will get benefits so saves the 2200 a month in cobra payments.

Why not ? No job is "meh"! As long as you know what you need to get back to whatever you're seeking next. Being employed > being unemployed
Last summer...??? Damn, this is scary...

I say go for it. My brother in law took a Data center ops role at AWS for a couple years. Started off changing filters and oil, then moved into a more management role that included reporting.
Was able to parlay that into a government D&A role at double the salary who (just saw Amazon on his resume)
I’d just be careful about publicizing a lower end job on your resume. Don’t want people to anchor on your current role vs what you are looking for long term.
Can you go as an independent consultant for a while?
Sure if you know someone who is hiring
If you need it to make ends meet, you should definitely put it on resume. It means you see yourself as not above a lower paying job to work hard, put food on the table. Wouldn’t that be better than a time gap on resume?
To Director, Consulting. I too was laid off in 2020 and started immediately working as a contractor through an agency. Some do W2 and some do 1099. Pay is $30.00 to $130.00 per hour depending on the need and contracts are 3 weeks to 3 months and up to 1 year with major firms and similar clients to the ones you previously worked. You'll continue with your skills and building relationships. Also, you are able to update your social media with your new title as an independent contractor. I was also given an offer to work full time and it took me close to 3 months from interview to start date. All along I was working my temp gig with a Global Financial Firm. Go to career builder, update your profile and you will receive daily emails about open temp jobs. Entertain a few offers and take one that pays the rent, then continue to work towards finding your full time job while you are working or enjoy being a freelance consultant and get back at it.
