They’re giving you more than usual.
1 week? Brutal. You were a short timer but you were committed. They were not (they had to know 3 months ago things were not stable!)
They are dicks, they had to know the relationship was busted
It should be at least 2 weeks. More if they poached you.
OMG OP. That’s awful. So sorry. If you can, say what just posted as simply and dispassionately as you can to HR / most senior person dealing with it. Then wait for them to respond. Leave an uncomfortable silence if necessary. Good luck.
@AD2 I think it's probably been updated to one two-week paycheck for every year...or possibly updated again to GOOSE EGG for every year. But yeah there was a time... there were also these things called magazine subscriptions you could get for free from people in the media department...and people left the building for lunch...oh it was a magical time...
This is why we need to unionize.
Should at least get a month.
This is going to happen more and more. Never nice but you have to get back on the horse and front footed. Straight on the phone to your key headhunters. Message your key likely leads for a catch-up. +get references. An official written one from your boss before you go and on linked in from your colleagues. Where one agency resizes, another grows. Chin up and good luck!
Droga?
I got one week for one year because company policy is one week per year of service. So yeah, you're even lucky for less than 3 months.. Sorry to hear about it though.
The account is new. We were understaffed and I worked my ass off. I hired the whole team. Then, my GAD came back from a week and a half holiday and said she doesn't need such a senior Account Director.
I’d say 2 weeks is reasonable (well, relatively speaking. This is a totally unreasonable situation.)
Sounds pretty fair and generous for a place that's doing so badly that it's hiring people and "restructuring" them three months later. Take it before the check bounces and get out of there.
The rule (this might be the old days) is a month's severance for every year you were there. Honestly Im surprised theyre giving you anything, since they're clearly in some sort of panicky death spiral.
This is the life we've chosen. Ugh.
BBDO1, wut? How old of days are we talking? Ancient times? Lol. Never heard of a month's pay for every year in my measly 15 years. Must've been nice though
1 week per each year at agency is standard.
(At least at my Omnicom agency)
You were only there 3 months? You actually made out pretty well. I have friends who spent 15 months here, and got 1 week severance
Anything for under a year is a good deal but still try to negotiate for up to a month. All they can say is no. Sign up for unemployment immediately so your grace period begins ASAP.
Where
Legally they probably owe you nothing. There's likely a probationary period in your contract. 3 or 6 months. And they can fire you at anytime within those months. So one week, legally, is probably very generous.
You all who think there is any standard severance are living in the past. No such thing. I can first hand confirm no such policy at omnicom
