I’m sure there was a reason why you applied to D in the first place. Does that reason still exist? Regardless of D culture, do you like the PwC culture? You should start there. You shouldn’t make a jump for 10% all else equal.
I’ve never even thought about a jump for less than 20% and never actually done it for under 30%. As you start getting more senior, sacrificing and having to rebuild your internal network gets more urgent upon starting a new job lest you have an involuntarily short tenure, so the new employer should make it worth your while.
I assume you got and accepted the offer before you knew you were being promoted and you heard your new salary?
That’s correct. I accepted the offer before I knew I’ll be promoted (I kinda knew i had very good chances of promotion but did not know that they would increase my salary by a good %. Was making $hit money before).
I like your point that the new employer should make it worthwhile for me to move and that’s the reason I am feeling very strongly about renegotiating with D even though I have accepted. Understand this would be a difficult conversation but impossible ?
Would stay at PwC. 10% isn’t high enough to sacrifice your network and people you like
Some more context: currently, the difference is around 20%. But I expect the difference to be around 10% when I tell my Partner that I have an offer and he’ll try to close the gap.
That’s the reason for my other question. I would love to join D but does it make sense to renegotiate with them and frankly tell them they gotta up the numbers to make it more attractive for me to join?
Appreciate your advice.
Um I came to D with a 75% pay increase. I wouldn’t move jobs for less than 30% it’s not worth it all the BS for 10%
same
Did you decide to interview at D because long term that’s where you want to build your career, or because you were afraid PwC was not going to promote you?
a) didn’t want to take a chance of not being promoted this year (IMO, my promo should have happened last year)
b) even after promo, was expecting the salary increase to not be a lot.
Hence decided to take the interview
It depends on what your long term goals are? Is the new opportunity at D aligned more towards you long term goal. Then pay should not be a limiting factor.
Am I the only one interested in a bit more specific on where does OP see P culture is better than D? Could you elaborate a bit more?
More flexibility, better work life balance. Life not simply about numbers ... (well, the last point is debatable. I’ll give you that)
I moved after 5 years at D to P for a 25% bump.
Wouldn’t have done it for anything less
