D2 - and how about college undergrads? If you can't find a job in the US you won't study in the US and pay tuition. And foreigners who usually pay higher tuition rates subsidize quite a bit of school spend. Who will make up for that gap? Mexico?
Guys and gals, H1B dependent company like D4 and E3 have said!!!! Please keep that in mind when commenting. Can you all take a moment to read the bill before going crazy? There is no need to act like the world is ending unless you are planning to go join Cognizant or Infosys. The world might end because of Trump eventually, but not because of this proposed bill. Also, no foreign students will get screwed unless they plan to go join Infosys or Wipro after their Masters. So please, download Headspace and relax!
The legislation that members of congress proposed (if you read it) targets dependent employers. But I do not know if trump's eo will take a different route and f*** everyone over as he seems to be enjoying with little thought for consequence.
D2, while I agree the lottery system is stupid, and 60k number should be revised upwards, there are about a million technology jobs open in the US right now.
Most firms outside the stem and banking field don't sponsor visas anyway - these outsourcing firms have been making us international students lives so difficult
How many companies can hire a college graduate with 130k?
@D5 Deloitte is not. The only companies affected would be Cognizant, etc.
D2 is correct. EY is not H1-B dependent either. This bill helps us all, I don't see why people are freaking out. It removes the staffing firms that exploit the visa program from the mix.
@D2 it's hard to believe that Deloitte does not have more than 15% of its employees on H1b... just through observations, might be wrong
I just looked up my LCA and it says KPMG is not a H1B dependent employer. For those of you on H1s, just look at the LCA Employer Information Question 1
If you're curious if you're underpaid vs. overpaid compared to H1B look here. Idk about you guys but we pay $60k for H1B business Analysts vs. 72.5K for campus hires...

D8: but the $130K is for H1-B dependent companies. Which is roughly calculated at those with greater than 15% of their workforce. I'm sure it varies for each company but unlikely that each Big4 is considered H1B dependent. Your LCA will confirm that.

This is possibly the wage/masters quota exemption that the bill is fighting. I could be wrong but it makes logical sense to me that this is what Representative Lofgren is fighting against.
130K has to be adjusted for current H1-B holders too. Companies cannot expect to be shelling 130K for a fresh MBA/Master's candidate when others who have been working in the firm for over 5 years aren't even close to that.
More so, they also need to take into account the amount of money international students spend for colleges here. If they don't get jobs after college, they won't come here - US will lose a major source of income. International students in a way create funds (given in terms of scholarships/loans) for other domestic students to attend college. If they are gone, good luck to domestic students starting their careers with a bigger college tuition debt
I feel very stressed out about this. Does anybody have any insight into how this affects those who already have H1Bs and those who are going to apply for one? Will we all lose our jobs?
I don't see how this can be implemented for existing h1bs
All H1Bs have to be renewed in 3 years. I think it does.
On H1b with less than 130k salary and going to India day after tomorrow for a 2 week trip. Might have to cancel :(
This is messed up - so FYI, Accenture and capgemni do not hire internationals who graduate from a US college (I can confirm because they target NYU, but I wasn't eligible to apply). Meanwhile, they hire thousands of outsourcing staff and petition for h1b...
I'm referring to consulting jobs for first years
