👆Not true. The big nonprofits - the ones every agency has done at least one Cannes entry for - can be nightmares and straight up ungrateful. (Do they know we usually get paid a million+ for this?)
Also steer clear of:
- tech startups, especially those with wunderkind CEOs (arrogant, immature clients who don’t understand advertising or social decency. Only reached out to you because their investors told them they need ads on TV before the IPO.)
- sexy brands, especially those who never had an AOR (people already love their brand. their strategy, design, and tone is tight, so agencies are just production vendors. Their internal creative director already has the vision, you just make their films, etc content. Probably won’t let you PR the work.)
Non-profits
Clients who still need agencies = the big old companies that have nothing to offer the world but their TV presence. (Big insurance brands, big auto brands, big beer brands, big fast food brands, big telecom brands).
Telecom is starting to pull in-house. The others are cutting costs, but still need us to survive. TV is how they drive sales
SD1: our team of 11 put out a tweet that convinced six men in Ohio to switch to our brand of rye bread, so don't you tell me tv is what drives sales!
Maybe they respect you for walking away 😌
