Dammit. I visibly winced reading this. 2 week old daughter had a bad fever and was hospitalized. Watching such a tiny, helpless human endure a spinal tap was absolutely heartbreaking.
This is a tough thread to read yet somehow heartwarming hearing some stories about the fortitude and vigilance a parent puts out there, when it counts the most, because the ONLY thing that matters is that your kid is and feels safe. #dadTruth
I'm a new dad and I think I'm starting to understand the kind of angst a parent goes to through. You can just never. stop. worrying. about the little guy/girl. Hope everything works out for you and your family.
It doesn't stop past the toddler stage. My son had a peanut allergy that we suspected - a few weeks ago, that was confirmed after my wife accidentally gave him an unlabelled cookie, a leftover from a work lunch, that had peanut butter in it. We had delayed anaphylactic shock with vomiting, then hives that spread from his abdomen up to his face over a few hours. I still feel guilty, thinking about my son screaming in agony when I stabbed him and held him down for the EpiPen to deliver the dose, and him lying limp in his car seat as we rushed to the ER. We can only try our best for our kids and hope it works out.
It's the worst. And as a new parent you always feel you're not doing it right. Have been to children's ER three times with our first. Nerve-wracking.
I’m in my 30s and first time uncle with no kids of my own. I don’t know if it is because my family is tight, it I have never felt so much love for a baby. He was in NICU on day 2 while I was traveling, and that whole trip was a big blur to me. I now understand what parents go through.. or so I think. Good luck to all of you, it’s not easy.
These are all so sad, keep up the good fight Dads
