I recently graduated from law school and have started my clerkship in the superior court of NJ. Once done with my clerkship, I’m hoping to work in employment law (defense). I’ve seen online that Jackson Lewis is hiring at their Berkeley Heights, NJ location. Can anyone give me any insight on what it’s like to work at JL? culture? First year associate salary? Typical work day? Jackson Lewis P.C.

There is a zero percent chance I would hire an attorney with a pending bar discipline issue. I’d be looking at JD+ or contract attorney jobs while that clears up.
I think the nature of the misdemeanor would influence what I would do and who I would hire. What was it?

Are these two things related (termination and bar issue)? Are you prohibited currently from practicing until this get resolved? Are you licensed elsewhere? Just being honest, but you will be asked to disclose all of that to the new employer regardless of expungement. Depending on the situation, it may be hard to employ you even if they really like you until that get resolved.

I’m sorry to hear that. Look, I’ll tell what I would do and you can take it or leave it. First, if whatever you did has anything to do with transactional, change your resume to highlight that. And, if you were in house, something you did was transactional. Firms are desperate for help in that area and competition is fierce. Say you can start immediately, no starting bonus. Do the above in the other state, it’s time to move. Disclose the issue your resolving on the phone and only verbally until they (potential new employer) asks you to put it in writing. Start applying now. Law firm hiring is all about timing (and the rush will start after bonuses start hitting). If you don’t want to work at a firm, then try your hands at in-house, but firms everywhere are hiring but you have to be willing to move (or go remote but let that be their option).
I have no idea if any of the above will work, but it is what I would do. Good luck.
