Rising Star
Not me but my husband started a new job a couple weeks before I found out I was pregnant. They gave him 4 months paid leave and a ramp up period for hours even though he’d only been there 9 months when I gave birth. His boss was pretty wonderful and supportive about the whole thing.

Do not ever consider this job (or any job) in your family planning decisions. Family planning>>>>job!
A2 - I was responding in the universe of Fishbowl. Where we, even associates, generally speaking, make a lot of money relative to other folks. And in that context, 100% do not delay children because you think firm prospects are better if you do so.
But, I thought it would go without saying, OF COURSE, if you cannot afford children, do not have them…or wait until you can afford them to do so.
I found out I was pregnant with baby #2 the first week at my new job last year! It was actually ok during the first trimester because I was still getting up to speed on projects and my hours load was relatively low, which the firm expected for the first several months. The firm did have me travel quite a bit last year to meet my team and clients, which would have been difficult if I had a tough pregnancy , but luckily my morning sickness was relatively mild and I handled traveling ok.
I let my team know I was pregnant at 20 weeks and everyone was/has been incredibly supportive and so far everything has worked out. I just got back from maternity leave and the transition back into work is going well so far, easier than coming back to my old firm after my first maternity leave!
Yes! I got pregnant 4 months after lateraling to a new firm and had bad morning sickness during my first trimester. Everything worked out fine and my new colleagues were supportive and happy for me.
You got this! Don’t let other peoples stories determine yours. Go in with a plan and you’ll be fine.
Not a bad career move. Work will always be there
Yes I did. And it really didn’t work out for me even though I was a star associate at the firm I left (followed partners). Recommend taking leave where you have already build your reputation.
I lateraled and went on leave about exactly a year after my first day at the firm and took off the full 5-6 mos offered in leave. I didn’t have the time really to develop new connections as I was so busy with billable work when I moved over, by the time I came back I would say that I was kind of old news. Doing good work and working hard helps but the partnership track I was promised when lateraling is not what I’ve gotten, and I think part of that is due to my long leave
