How’s work life balance in forensics?
Received an offer as Engagement Director from Salesforce (CSG, pre sales, L9). Great benefits package, 40% increase in total comp and better WLB.
I do love the people in my practice and current client, but career trajectory has stalled after taking parental leave earlier this year and (yet another) change in leadership.
Realistically, making to Director is 2-3 years away and will require sacrificing time with my family that I am not prepared to give up.
Should I stay or should I go?

Many years ago I know of two new moms who shared a job at VBP. From my understanding is that the two moms came up with the idea and presented it together to the agency. They did it for like a year but then one left and the other resumed full time. Aside from freelance, I’ve never heard of it otherwise
I know a few moms that came back 4 days a week for a reduced salary.
I worked with a CD who did 3 days/week, but was flexible to adjust which days for occasional needs.
Ask. A lot of companies already have flex opportunities in mind if not as a solid option available - it’s just an “HR won’t actively bring it up if you don’t” kinda thing.
If you love the job and they respect the value you bring - they WILL make it work.
If not, there are definitely agencies out there who will go for it. It’s totally a candidate driven market these days!
I did this with my first baby, working 3 days a work at 60% of my salary, full benefits. I worked it out directly with my manager, who was very supportive of working moms. It was a true godsend.
The flip side, though, is if your job can be done part-time, it can raise questions about the job’s necessity if belts are being tightened. For me the risk was worth it.
i have been 30 hours or less for more than a decade (both client facing and non) with no plans to change it. A few considerations -
1) you get very efficient, and can often carry more than 75% of the workload in 75% of the time, so 75% pay can feel like you’re being shortchanged. For me it’s been well worth it but I’ve had moments early on where I was resentful.
2) no one will protect your boundaries except for you. Be prepared to spend some time learning how not to feel like you’re always on call outside of your working hours.
3) come up with a clear plan for your manager/leadership to respond to vs talking vaguely about wanting flexibility. In client facing role I worked 5 short days a week. I’ve done 3 long, etc. Figure out what you think will cause the least strain on the organization and makes sense for your family and see if they can trial it for 3 months.
