I found out that I’m pregnant rather unexpectedly. Still early, but I’m only 27 (married) and am wondering how this is going to affect career trajectory. We were going to have kids, just not for a bit

Congratulations!!! I was about your age and only an associate (got promoted to senior right after i found out i was pregnant) with my first baby. It was tough because my priorities had shifted, but with communication and a lot of support from the team i work with, i made it through my first year as a senior with flying colors. Since, i had another baby and was promoted to manager in under 5 years.

I don't think my trajectory has been affected much because it shifted slightly, my priorites are not the same, but i still feel that i was able to move ahead really fast. Communication and flexibility are key!

Best of luck to you and hope you have an easy pregnancy!!

I will say...I truly don't believe it will impact your trajectory. Even if you may not make the charge hour goals for the year...there are plenty others that don't. In my office it wouldn't.

Congrats! There is no right time if you will to have kids. You are pregnant and that is a wonderful blessing. It honestly shouldn’t affect your career. Good luck to you and Congrats again!

like

Congratulations! If anything, you should remember to take care of yourself (and your child). Be honest and upfront with your managers and partners and they will support you throughout your career .

It can be really tough — but with the right support system you shouldn’t have pregnancies impact your career trajectory too much, if at all
