Hi fishes! I volunteer with The Art of Good, a creative collective helping small businesses affected by the pandemic. They are seeking a little help from a media professional. Need an SEM POV for a small business looking to change their name and relaunch their brand. This is non-paid. More about giving back while in-between gigs. :) If you can help out or want to learn more, please reach out to me via LinkedIN. Thank you!! www.linkedin.com/in/karenkohn/

It’s been great, there’s a huge time difference for me but I enjoy having the morning/day to myself and working in the evening. In terms of taxes, if you live outside of the US for most of the year, you can qualify for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion which saves me a bunch especially because I’m freelancing.
This is great info. I have been wondering this myself. Thank you for sharing.

The time zone dif might be more of a challenge than one imagined.
What about taxes? That seems to be the biggest hurdle in the long run.

I worked for a US agency from Europe for a while. It’s not profitable. You can avoid the taxes thing by being paid through the network agency in your country (if there is one and if they are willing to cooperate)
But I was paid in dollars while Euro is higher so lost money there.
And there’s the time zone thing. Work days started at 4 in the afternoon til 12 at night, which was hard, surely on Friday.
I worked from Italy remote for a while and the worst part is the time difference. I could never go out to dinner mon-Fri. Also if it was a late day here I was working until 12-1am. Other than that it was fine.
I also have coworkers who went home to Korea in 2020 during early covid and that seemed very difficult to manage. They weren’t really fully present employees during that time- during the afternoon they were in the wee hours of the morning and they often disappeared around 2-3pm. The company tolerated it for a short time but it wasn’t sustainable.
