Starting a new job at Applied Materials on Monday as a Manufacturing Engineer III. I’ve been out of college for 5 years and all of my work experience till now has been in R&D for start ups and small businesses . So not only is this a new experience for me going into such a large company but also a industry (semiconductors). Does anybody has tips or advices on what I should expect as a new hire and how I can set myself up for success? Thanks!

A question for VCs: I’m currently a VC analyst. I want to eventually come back to the VC industry and perhaps become a partner (if possible). However, there’s an opportunity to work at an Endowment Fund (Harvard/Yale/Stanford level). Would you recommend me to spend the next 3-4 years doing something that’s not directly VC related? I’m currently at a studio that has been good to me. They took a chance and allowed me to change career paths. They gave me numerous opportunities that lead me to now, being the head of a department. The big guys at the top has expressed they could see me as the guy to run the company one day but it’s all talk and possibilities right now. I’ll have to wait for now. At the same time I have an offer in another company with good package but there won't be much learning compared to the current company project I am yet to get locked. Currently an analyst-level consultant working with a client that has an investment banking division. Since I have access to internal systems, could I reach out to bankers for networking from within using those systems? Or would that be too aggressive? lol

Interesting all the noise about these PPT, my take:

The pandemic took all the upside of an IB analyst life (client meetings in person, fancy trips, suit up, worshiped at networking events) and left all the juniors with the downside (long hours, monkey-like type of job, aggressive work environment).

Not that the complaints are not sort of legitimate but you may need to revise the decision-making process that led you to accept a return offer. Specially if you were looking for less hours.

I can really use some direction. My background, I've worked 2 years in strategy and am currently coming off an exhausting year 2 in investment banking. I didn't particularly enjoy either role and am not interested in moving over to the buy-side or some monotonous FP&A role. Everybody says there's exit-ops aplenty, but I find myself with less options and even more picky than I did as an ambitious T2 undergrad student. Where do I go from here?
