Take medical leave. It saved my life. That is what it is there for.
I took short-term disability and it was the best decision I could’ve made for myself and my health. We’re lucky to have that ability, take advantage of it. My team was super understanding and let me take my time getting back into the swing of things when I came back. Even though it was a slow, at times painful, road.
If you have a good relationship with your team, and are known to always deliver, you’ll be fine. (Heck even if you weren’t, I think you’d still be fine.) Take the time you need. Your health is #1 everything else comes second. Hoping things get better for you soon. 💕
I haven’t dealt with this first hand but had a coworker who took leave to take care of an illness. I’d encourage you to take the time you need to manage symptoms and hopefully figure out the best way to manage moving forward. ❤️Once my coworker confided in me about what they were going through, I wished they would’ve taken the time sooner, as I know they were really struggling. Our team was super supportive and as this person transitioned into their leave a lot of our teammates were there to help lighten the load in whatever way they could. Good luck, and I hope the time off is restorative.
I took a short-term leave of absence for a month a few years ago for some health issues. It was honestly the best thing for me, and looking back my body was trying to tell me I needed a break for so long. I just didn’t listen and it led to a crisis. If you’re, US-based, you’ll need to file for FMLA and plan to use short-term disability, which will cover a % of pay. I think I had about 10 days that were unpaid or where I had to use some PTO days before short-term disability kicked in. It honestly was not a challenge to get back into it when I returned. Everyone I worked with was very helpful and I also came in with a new acknowledgment of what my body could and could not do. I wish you luck!
Hang in there! 🙌 I’ve been going through the same stuff as you’re describing, and unfortunately for me I wasn’t able to take a leave as at the time it was so complicated at my company, and I didn’t have it in me to deal with that and I just quit. Hope you have enough strength and the process is easy enough for you! 🙏
