Perkins has a partner comp system that is very bonus-heavy — partners with large books regularly see more than 40 or 50 percent of their total annual comp paid in a 12/31 bonus. Those relationship partners that lateraled mid-year left significant earned income on the table when they did so, surprising many in the firm (and incenting partners on the fence to stay collect a portion of the money that they left behind). The real exodus won’t begin until January/February of ‘26, after the bonus pool is paid out and the more patient partners announce their already-decided-upon departures. Whether that exodus is large enough to trigger additional waves of partner departures remains to be seen.
