Sc1 , sql experience is strong but haven't worked in mysql since long. Python is relatively new.
You don't need to know that much about sql, just your typical joins, aggregate functions and filtering. For python, I would start learning some more of that. Majority, if not all, of FB data engineers have more software experience. Their background and knowledge in sql/modeling land is pathetic; nobody knew what a surrogate key was lol
I interviewed for them the other week :) Don't worry about mysql-syntax. As long as you know sql, you should be fine
What's your experience with sql and Python?
Thanks slalom 1. What about analytical and recursive functions that are simpler in oracle than MySQL. Is using oracle sql syntax fine in that case?
Maybe if you'd called it a parent key they'd recognize it? Or is that something different? I've honestly never heard the term either.
Nope, I cannot think of anyone on my team who wouldn't know what a surrogate key is. Data engineering at tech companies is so different than what majority of companies are doing. It's essentially software engineers-turned folks working on data tools about 99%of the time
Well then maybe they could use some of my BI/DW and modelling skillz. 🤓
