find a cheap ticket to new york, say you'll be visiting family at the time there, and ask if they can cover the ny-sf flight; should be cheaper overall
The entitlement is strong in this one
Unless you are truly world class talent, how can you expect them to fly you from London. They can get plenty of talent, even international talent, from Palo Alto (Stanford). Pay for the ticket yourself if you feel strongly about the opp
They said they can only book travel within the US.
It's better to just ask instead of guessing on this one
I really don't think it's entitlement. I've asked to interview locally (via London office and webex), Skype, or postponing it, and they still say they want me to come in less than a week. I don't think I'm being unreasonable for not wanting to spend $1000 to interview. I can't be the only one who thinks this way
Correct but if you ask them if they'll comp you for the travel you book yourself, it may work out, or work out some sort of arrangement via skype
Good luck m8
^genius
Then don't work there if it's too much trouble
Haven't thought about Skype- I have asked if they'll reimburse me- fingers crossed
Ask if they would cover up to a certain amount. The differential may be manageable
Stay in London
It's not. The interview is very close and it worked out to ~700 dollars to get to NYC. It was cheaper to fly straight to SF (~650). Honestly this isn't a big ask, and I believe they should pay- the fact that they don't is a huge red flag to me. Google, FB etc have all done it, and I don't know if I'll like them or they'll like me- why would I pay thru the nose just to not get it?
I'm an analyst, btw
How big is the company?
Publicly traded B2B tech firm, 25Bn in revenue. Not as well known but definitely a megacorp.
Who said they can't? A decision maker? As you say OP, it raises red flags. Are they serious about you and you about them?
I'd say I was interested and not 'serious'. This interview was a way for me to get to know the firm in person. They're semi well known, but not a google or FB. I'm not interested anymore.
