Have any of you been through the process of taking a learning disability test as an adult? What was it like and were you able to get insurance to cover it? I suspect I may have dyscalculia in addition to adhd and could benefit from taking the official test.

I can't speak to dyscalculia, but adhd testing is often administered by a licensed psychologist. You can refer to your health insurance company's mental health benefits to understand what is covered. Fwiw, my child and I both underwent psychological testing for adhd and autism. I was employed under a deloitte health plan with united health insurance. Testing was covered in full and only had a small copay.

Oh wow, ok. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll definitely hop on that since I met my deductible this year.

I just recently completed a full battery of neuropsych testing with an additional focus on autism. I’m 30. This was posted over a month ago so maybe it’s no longer relevant, but I’m happy to share about my experience if you’re still interested.

Yes, absolutely! My doctor made a referral but there were 385 people waitlisted so i won’t be able to get assessed anytime soon 😩

Trigger: rare illness post birth

Just sharing that I was diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia 3 days after giving birth despite not having risk factors or preeclampsia in my pregnancy. Sharing as I had absolutely no idea about this illness.

Main things to do are check your BP everyday at least the first ten days after you give birth, and go to hospital if it's very high (over 160/110). If you get severe headache or stomach ache then also be vigilant.

Happy to answer any questions!

My last therapist keeps coming up in my mind. I left her when I moved to a new area before COVID dug in and frankly it felt like leaving a girlfriend. She also disclosed in the final session that she was a member of AA and knew several of the people I occasionally discussed from the rooms. Her knowledge of the program certainly built trust with me early on, but it has been two years. I discussed it with my current therapist but she’s still in there. Any advice?

It’s been extremely stressful and harmful to my ptsd anxiety and depression.

Additional Posts in ADHD Consultants

I recently got diagnosed with ADHD. I'm 31 and found this only because b school and post mba consulting job was/is much more challenging than anything I did before. What I'm confused about is that even as a teenager I could read entire books overnight. But the last two years of high school I started selectively zoning out and the problem has become worse since. I just realised it now. My doctor has suggested treating depression (I was also unaware of this) with Wellbutrin first (contd)

My psychiatrist today revealed to me that I may have ADHD, still a hypothesis that he is still exploring but from my personal experiences and discussions with therapist, it seems likely.

One example of personal experience is my ongoing prep for case studies as I'm interviewing with a number of firms. I do struggle to keep focus and generally take a bit longer to finish them, specifically the structuring of the case. Does anybody else feel the same way and any recommendations to overcome this?
