Layoffs at Walmart corporate 😬😬
Hi fishes,
Any guess how many people are laid off from Publicis sapient in past few days? Really scared for my future as I'm also under probation period and deeply regret for my choice of joining this firm...I don't understand why were they recruiting peeps when they were short of projects. Publicis Sapient
So, lay off until the pandemic blows over.

Twice in 10 years. Mostly excuses but got a severance. I personally, never take it personal even if the company does. The first time was devastating but I learned a great deal about being prepared (at that first place I also learned to always have a lawyer). The 2nd time I had my lawyer read the papers and he got me more money because they definitely tried to make it personal. Also, I had reviews so I know I was doing great at what I do.
@OP, I’m pretty sure when you leave because you were “sloppy,” you were fired, not laid off..
I got laid off and was given too separate reasons in two separate meetings (a very Mccann thing to do): in meeting 1 the CD was given a script to read by HR that "they needed to make room for a push into digital and adjust their skills set” and repeated this statement 4 times before leaving the room. In meeting 2 the recruiter simply said it was because my partner and I “acted like assholes who were too good for the work available and no group wanted to take us on.”
Happens all the time in this business. This is my 4th time being laid off. Starting to really hate advertising.
‘Lost a client ‘
I was once told that I was "sloppy", which was never something I heard before that; it was definitely a personal thing. Had lack of funds implied but never straight up told that. Curious if we’re fed mostly truth or mostly excuses.
I was also laid off four times. The first one was the gut punch, but in retrospect I should have seen it coming (guess my lesson was don’t turn down the ECD when he’s hitting on you?).
Gets easier after the first.
The last two times I was laid off I initiated it by volunteering when business left. Negotiated some nice severance.
Eventually I found a place where I fit better. At least they haven’t laid me off yet.
10 times. 1) New ECD making room for his buddies 2) Dot-com crash, 3rd round of agency-wide layoffs, 3) Insubordination, 4) Creative differences, 5) Creative differences II, 6) Stepping on toes, 7) Insubordination II, 8) Lost Account, 9) Won a Lion but my GCDs didn’t, 10) Insubordination III.
@SDAD what state was that in? Seems like most at will states view severance as a privilege, and not as a legal mandatory.
@CD1 - you can negotiate severance?
Actually @SS1 the "sloppy" remark was a coded message that they don’t like fat women at the office, only cute girls in short skirts - it was a message I’d been getting for months and that final remark was the CCO barely holding it together as he walked out of the room. Also I know I was laid off cause of the paperwork I signed. But thanks 👋
@OP did you talk to a lawyer? That sounds like discrimination
SAD1, yes you can negotiate severance. You don’t have much leverage, obviously, but the agency doesn’t want you making a scene and just wants you gone. Only tried it once and not when part of a mass layoff.
I was told that I wasn’t progressing enough. Even though six months earlier at my review, I was.
I was in a large layoff and did not negotiate severance. A few months later a colleague was laid off from same company and did negotiate. Lesson learned. Don’t sign their paperwork for a few days, let your head cool, talk it over with others. They gave me one lousy week and I probably could have got a few more
At CD1 - good to know, thanks!
