Have you ever come across a job application that asks for more personal information than expected?
I recently saw a role requesting a resume, a photo of the candidate holding an ID card, and a separate image of the ID itself. It made me pause because that level of documentation feels excessive at an early stage of the process. Is this a standard hiring requirement or something candidates should be cautious about?

Forgot to mention that this could also be a red flag for a scam. There's fake job postings that try to harvest personal data. Report it if you think that's the case.

Exactly my concern. I didn't want to jump to "scam" immediately, but the more I thought about it, resume plus ID photo plus separate ID image before any interview? That's a data harvest special. I reported the posting. Even if it's legit, that kind of ask normalizes risky behavior for everyone else.

Asking for a photo of you and your ID just to submit the application is completely unacceptable. Who knows where those photos will end up and who has access to them. Submit a gif instead that says "For security reasons I will gladly provide ID when we get to the interview". That being said, it's become commonplace for hiring managers to ask you to flash your ID during the interview. I don't have a problem with it. We live in strange times now where AI fraud is a real thing. Just don't flash your id to anyone else except HR.

Feels like this is a phishing scam

Yes, this happened to me. It made me suspicious when they wanted my photo ID.. The job exactly matched my credentials, which they could’ve easily gotten off of LinkedIn and the pay was excessive… not to mention fully remote.

like

Kathy, you just described three textbook scam signals: excessive pay, perfectly matched credentials, and the ID request. I'm glad you caught it. Did you report the posting?

Yes that’s very much a red flag for a scam

I wouldn’t necessarily think it would be a scam if applying for a position where there is some measure of security needed or it’s a critical position. In any case, look at the job description to see if it lists any specific requirements like that. Research the company and see what stuff they’re involved in such as major contracts or government related. Is there a security clearance required with the position? Do they deal with the financial or medical sector? Or is the job possibly with a known company like Walmart, but you’d be their compliance department? Just a few things to consider before ruling it out. If possible, contact them directly and ask why they want certain things for an application.

like

You're right, security cleared roles, finance, healthcare, government adjacent… those sometimes require more documentation. But even then, a photo of me holding my ID before an offer? That's unusual. Your suggestion to contact them directly and ask why is the move. A legit company will have a clear, defensible answer. A scam will get defensive or vanish. That's the test

It’s a scam!

Hi
Applied for a position in Johnson and Johnson Canada. Reached the final round 3 weeks back. After not getting any updates I emailed the HR a couple of weeks back. They responded back telling me that they’ll have an update for me the next week. Again I emailed them on Thursday asking if they have anything for me before the long weekend ( Good Friday & Easter). No response whatsoever. Will emailing them again be inappropriate? I desperately need this job

Hi all, I just got a job offer at PwC for a senior consultant position. The salary is 30% above my total comp right now, but I’m just worried about the amount of work I will have to put in compared to my amazing work life balance now. Does anyone have any experience moving from industry to consulting? I need some advice on what to do. I’m still early in my career (1.4yoe) so I feel like I shouldn’t care too much about wlb, but at the same time, I don’t want my mental health to suffer either.

There are plenty of other good universities internationally so why the expensive ones in the US?

Career advice?

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

Any opinions/tips?

As an junior UX designer, should I use the remaining months of this year to refine my portfolio as it seems there’s only rarely job postings for my level? I’ll apply when I feel it’s right regardless, but I’m wondering if more opportunities will come up late this year/early next year?
