Have you ever dealt with partners who hide that a matter is pro bonk? in the last month I've had partners reach out to me and ask if I'm available to help on something, and I say yes. I work on it for a week or two until I finish the task. Then the partner gives me the billing number, and it's pro bono. My firm counts pro bono but I do have to hit a baseline of client billable credit.

I'm happy to help these clients, but it's funny that these partners didn't tell me it's pro bono.

Essentially all I did was note whether certain agreements have change of control provisions, and if so, what the specific language is. I understand what the CoC do, but why am I doing this? I’ve always just submitted each timer as soon as I finish a task—“call with x re y” really doesn’t take that long even if I’m busy, and if I don’t do it immediately I’ll forget all those little I did in the morning by the time I go to bed. No shade at all to those with different systems, just genuinely curious because I see a lot about catching up at month end on here and I have no idea how that works??

How did you learn those skills, and what types of documents do you speed read in practice? I do mostly litigation and am thinking that speed reading would help with research but maybe not things like doc review where you need to review for both responsiveness and privilege.
