Have you ever interviewed a candidate who was well qualified but you didn’t proceed with them as a candidate because they didn’t go to a target school?

No and I have hired non-targets over targets. Also, once you have experience, school really doesn’t matter much. You’re either good at your job or you aren’t.

In my personal opinion, I’ve worked with people whom have their bachelors and masters degree and it does not mean they’re “smarter” than those who don’t have a college degree. I personally only have my associates degree and often get rejected from jobs because I don’t have a bachelors. However this does not stop me from continuing to peruse other position roles where the hiring manager will be able to see my work experience beats any recent college graduate.

likefunny

@Leidos, not anymore. There are a ton of FA/PCA/PFD vacancies that employers can’t fill so a lot of companies are foregoing the educational requirements in lieu of actual experience.

The only time I snub my nose at a school is if it is one of the online money grab schools that are a joke and not legit. Otherwise, I don’t care where someone went to school. I also feel the candidates who didn’t go to target schools, generally, wind up being better employees. There’s a serious sense of entitlement from some of these kids coming out of those schools.

like

15+ years ago I had a co worker who got their bachelors and their mba from a non accredited online school all within a year. How does someone not realize that the paper is worthless and legit companies know this.

Some of the brightest people I’ve worked with went to small colleges that most people have never heard of, and some of the least articulate, and frankly, dumbest people I’ve worked with went to well known “targeted” schools. It comes down to can they do the job and do I want to spend 8-10 hours of my day with them. You can train most people to do most jobs these days. You can’t teach intangibles

uplifting

Yes, the criteria was they had to be ucla, Stanford , Cal, Yale, or Harvard. If not into the trash you go.

funny

Why would you interview a person not from a target school if you are basing hiring decision on that? Wasting an applicants time is not ok

like

For what it’s worth, I went to a non-target, and have outpaced nearly all of my friends who went to target schools in terms of comp and title in the three years I’ve been out of school. I’m a firm believer in the individual, not the school

It depends where in the career cycle they are. Someone directly out of college, maybe. Someone who advanced up the ranks, why should it matter? That information is more important.

I don't understand this. If you've already interviewed the candidate you should have a clear view of how they measure. Dropping them from the recruitment process at that stage based on what school they went to is ridiculous.

If you're screening by educational background, that should be done before selecting candidates for interview.

Not sure how true it is but I’ve heard there’s quotas for employment from target vs non target schools. So you may get selected for the interview for the 1 spot for non target candidates vs the 5 for the target school candidates and then of course your chances of going further follow suite

I need to be able to leave work at 4pm to pick up my son from daycare, but i can get back online at home to resume any unfinished work at 8pm. Or should i just try to find a job with a salary that covers a nanny salary and accept that i will never see my son on weekdays (which would be sad for both of us)? TIA!

Although, i checked on Google as well average pay they are giving is 9.7 lakh
