Think it’s kind of opinion what feels easier to do. I think verbally is best because I can see those in person cues you wouldn’t get through email. Also, way less back and forth. Nothing more stressful to me than having to wait for somebody to reply .

I'm much more comfortable discussing via email. There's less pressure and I have time to collect my thoughts before responding. I can't think of the last time I negotiated salary verbally. It's probably been 10 years or more now.

A lot of it depends on the rapport you have with your manager. If you're able to talk with them comfortably, an in-person meeting might be best. Doing it in person has an advantage as you can make the case for yourself and react in real time. It may be easier to say what you want via email, but it would also be easier for someone to say no the same way.
